Forte delle Marze

The quadrangular fortress features stone-clad lower walls, brick upper levels, and a four-sided roof with multiple chimneys at its summit point.

The Lorraine dynasty constructed this military structure in the late 18th century, incorporating it into the coastal defense network of Tuscany.

The fortress maintained a dual role as a military outpost and salt collection point following the closure of salt flats near Torre della Trappola.

Coastal erosion has modified the fort's original position, moving it from direct sea contact to the beginning of the beach front.
