Forte delle Marze, Coastal fort in Grosseto, Italy.

Forte delle Marze is a fortification on the Grosseto coast with thick stone walls on its lower section and brick construction above. The building features a four-sided roof topped with multiple chimneys that rise prominently from its summit.

This fortress was built in the late 18th century as part of Tuscany's coastal defense system under regional authority. It emerged during a period when salt production was becoming increasingly vital to the region's economy.

The fort served as both a military watchtower and a salt production center, making it central to the coastal economy of this region. Its architecture still shows how these two functions were integrated into daily operations.

The fort is reachable from Provincial Road 158 and lies near Marina di Grosseto along the beach. It is best accessed on foot, with flat terrain surrounding the structure making exploration straightforward.

Sea level and coastal erosion have altered the fort's original position, so it now sits back from the water's edge instead of directly facing the sea. This shift tells a quiet story of how the Tuscan coastline has changed over the generations.
