Piazza Matteotti skyscraper

Piazza Matteotti skyscraper is a residential tower in central Livorno containing 26 stories of apartments across its full height. The structure houses multiple elevator systems to serve residents moving through the different floors and levels.

Renowned architect Giovanni Michelucci designed this residential complex in the early 1960s, with construction finished in 1966. The project reflected a broader postwar movement of Italian cities to modernize their housing stock.

The building shapes Livorno's skyline as a vertical landmark that has defined residential living and neighborhood connections since its completion. Its presence shows how medium-sized cities adapted to house growing populations by building upward instead of outward.

Multiple entrances provide access to different sections of the building for residents and visitors. The central location means nearby streets can be busy during peak hours, so exploring the surroundings on foot is often easier than by car.
