Villa Maria, Historical villa in Livorno, Italy
Villa Maria stands on Via Calzabigi with its notable square tower and features elaborate mosaic floors displaying the Rodocanacchi family crest.
Built in the mid-18th century by the Capponi brothers, the villa underwent major transformations under Pietro Rodocanacchi before being acquired by Giovanni Lazzara in 1903.
The villa now houses a section of the Biblioteca Labronica, containing 40,000 volumes of non-fiction and 11,000 books related to performing arts.
The library opens Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 13:30 and 14:30 to 19:30, with Saturday hours from 8:30 to 13:30, offering internet access and audiovisual stations.
During its industrial period, the villa housed a coral processing workshop that employed over 1,000 specialized female workers under Giovanni Lazzara's direction.
