Is Arenas, Golf resort and beach along the west coast of Sardinia, Italy.
Is Arenas is an 18-hole golf course on Sardinia's west coast set within Mediterranean pine forests and coastal dunes. The layout spreads across approximately 6,300 meters and blends the sport with the natural surroundings.
The golf course was designed in the late 1990s by Hagge, Smelek and Baril, transforming undeveloped coastal land into a sporting facility. The project marked the beginning of golf as a major activity in this part of Sardinia.
The buildings here show traditional Sardinian architecture that fits naturally into the surroundings. Visitors can taste local food prepared with regional recipes at the on-site restaurant.
Visitors should arrive early in the morning or late afternoon to enjoy the best playing conditions and avoid the heat. The facility offers equipment rental and instruction, so it helps to bring comfortable clothing and plenty of water.
In 2013, Is Arenas became the first Italian golf facility to earn the European Geo on Course environmental certification. This standard shows the course follows ecological guidelines and protects the fragile dune landscape.
