Monte Camiolo, Mountain summit in Lombardy, Italy
Monte Camiolo is a mountain summit in the Brescia and Garda Prealps reaching approximately 1,235 meters. The peak and surrounding slopes contain extensive woodlands and meadows distributed across different elevation zones.
The mountain first appeared in historical records in 1511 within a document concerning territorial boundaries between local communities. Its name became rooted in the medieval history of the Vestino Valley region.
Shepherds have long used these slopes to graze their herds and gather fodder for winter months. Local families shaped the landscape through generations of pastoral work that continues to mark the terrain.
The mountain is reached via hiking trails that pass through Bocca alla Croce, a pass at around 1,061 meters elevation. These routes provide various entry points to the Alto Garda Bresciano Park for different ability levels.
During World War I, Italian forces took control of this summit in May 1915 without facing resistance, marking a strategic gain against Austro-Hungarian positions. This swift advance highlighted the importance of mountain positions in the conflict.
