Maschio delle Faete

Maschio delle Faete is the highest peak in the Alban Hills, rising to approximately 950 meters above the surrounding terrain. The mountain has a distinctive conical shape that tapers sharply from its base to its summit point.

The mountain formed millions of years ago as part of a major volcanic system that shaped the entire region. Its last volcanic activity occurred during the Pleistocene period, long before humans settled in the area.

Local residents have established numerous hiking paths throughout the mountain, creating a network of trails that connect various points of natural interest.

The mountain is accessible via marked hiking trails from nearby villages like Rocca di Papa, with the climb taking about two hours. Proper footwear and water are important year-round, as the ascent can be steep in places.

The ridge connecting this peak to nearby Monte Cavo marks the rim of an ancient volcanic caldera of massive proportions. This mountain crest itself makes for a rewarding walk and offers views across the other volcanic craters scattered throughout the region.
