Monte Sparagio

Monte Sparagio is a mountain summit in the Province of Trapani that reaches 1110 meters and stands as the highest peak in the region. The mountain displays limestone rock faces and steep slopes throughout its terrain.

The mountain formed as part of Sicily's geological development, featuring its distinctive limestone structure. A rectangular rock formation near the summit served as a known gathering place in the 1860s.

Walking the trails, you encounter old stone structures that local shepherds once used to store hay during their seasonal work on the mountain.

The hiking trail starts at Hotel Terra degli Elimi in Buseto Palizzolo and takes about 2.5 hours to reach the summit. Bring sturdy hiking boots and plenty of water, as the route crosses rocky terrain throughout.

During winter months, the barren rocky landscape comes alive with small wildflowers including cyclamens, marigolds, and crocuses covering the slopes. These delicate blooms create an unexpected contrast against the otherwise sparse terrain.
