Monte Terza Grande is a mountain in Belluno Province that rises to 2,586 meters in elevation. From the north and south it appears pyramidal in shape, while the eastern and western faces show rocky formations.
The mountain was first documented as climbed in 1820 when surveyors reached the summit during a mapping expedition of the Carnic Alps. These early explorations were part of the scientific effort to understand the Alpine range.
The mountain stands as the highest peak in the Southern Carnics, forming part of the Dolomiti Pesarine range, which holds geological importance in Italian alpine heritage.
You can reach the mountain through established routes starting from Passo Oberenghe, with the main path suitable for experienced hikers. Other approaches require advanced climbing skills and solid mountain experience.
The mountain has two distinct summits, with the northeast peak reaching 2,591 meters slightly higher than the well-known southwest summit. These two peaks create an interesting topographic feature that can surprise climbers who reach the area.
