Palazzo Scarpetta

Palazzo Scarpetta is a four-story palace in Rione Sanità with a grand entrance gate adorned by a winged goddess holding a trumpet and a mask. The building displays the classical architecture typical of Neapolitan noble residences from that period.

Eduardo Scarpetta, an influential early 20th-century actor in Naples, commissioned this palace near Teatro Sannazaro as a reflection of his success in the local theater scene. The building represents the height of his prosperity during that era.

The entrance hall displays statues depicting characters from Scarpetta's famous comedy Na Santarella, including the Nun, the Musician, and Santarella. These figures tell the story of the theatrical tradition embedded in the building.

The building is located at Via Vittoria Colonna 4 and functions today as a venue for cultural events and exhibitions. Visitors should check in advance which activities are happening to ensure access is available.

The frieze above the entrance carries decorative elements that allude to the theatrical world Scarpetta inhabited. This architectural detail connects the Neapolitan noble house with the city's vibrant arts scene.
