Villa Pignatelli, Art museum in Chiaia, Naples, Italy
Villa Pignatelli is a museum in Naples with Neoclassical design, situated along the Riviera di Chiaia waterfront. The building has an atrium with Doric columns and rooms filled with valuable collections of furnishings and artworks from different periods.
The house was designed in 1826 as a private residence for Ferdinand Acton by architect Pietro Valente. It later changed hands and was occupied by wealthy families like the Rothschilds and Pignatelli before becoming a museum.
The name comes from the Pignatelli family, who lived here for many years. The rooms show how wealthy families of the 1800s lived, with elegant furnishings and artworks still visible throughout the house today.
The museum is located on the coast and easy to reach by foot, with spacious rooms that flow naturally from one to the next. The outdoor gardens are also accessible and offer a chance to take a break during your visit.
The rooms still hold monograms left by the Rothschild family, with the letters "CR" marked on the walls. These marks tell the story of when one of Europe's most influential banking families lived here.
