Palazzo del Governo, Renaissance palace in Ancona, Italy
The Palazzo del Governo stands in Piazza del Plebiscito with a classical double portal on its north side and a courtyard featuring pointed arches.
Francesco di Giorgio Martini transformed the structure into its Renaissance form in 1484, following a fire that destroyed the previous government building in 1348.
The palace exhibits the architectural excellence of the Italian Renaissance through its stone courtyards, decorated archways, and detailed window cornices.
The building currently functions as the Prefecture headquarters, maintaining its role as a center of governmental administration in Ancona.
The palace features a civic tower rebuilt in 1581, equipped with a carillon that plays the melody of Mezzogiorno using four distinct bells.
