Palazzo del Governo, Government palace in Arezzo, Italy.
Palazzo del Governo is a government building in Arezzo with four floors and a curved facade combining brick and travertine stone on Poggio del Sole hill. Inside, it contains the Prefecture offices, Police Headquarters, and a ceremonial hall, each accessed through separate entrances.
Architect Giovanni Michelucci designed the building in 1936, with construction starting in July 1937 and opening in October 1939. This construction period marked an important moment of urban development in Arezzo.
The Salone delle Feste reception hall features double-arched galleries that reflect the architectural style typical of 1930s Italian government buildings. The space shows how official settings were designed to convey authority and order during that era.
The building sits atop a hill with good visibility from various parts of the city. Its three separate entrances provide access to different sections depending on which office or area you need to visit.
The front garden has displayed a Monument to the Partisan since 1975, honoring those who died in the Aretine valleys during World War II. This memorial connects the building's modern architecture to the area's war history.
