Rifugio Pedrotti, Alpine refuge at Pale di San Martino, Italy
Rifugio Pedrotti is a mountain hut located at 2581 meters on the western edge of the Pale Plateau in the Dolomites. The shelter accommodates around 70 guests and serves as a base for visitors exploring the rocky terrain of this alpine region.
The shelter was built in 1889 by the Società Alpinisti Tridentini and established as a base for mountaineers. It emerged as part of efforts to make the Pale di San Martino range more accessible for climbing.
The refuge serves traditional mountain cooking using regional ingredients from the surrounding area. Visitors experience simple, hearty cuisine that has long satisfied the needs of climbers working at high altitude.
You can reach the hut via the Colverde-Rosetta cable car or by foot along marked trails. The best time to visit is from June through September, though it also opens on winter weekends until Easter.
From the hut you have direct access to the Fradusta Glacier, one of the few remaining glaciers in the southern Alps. This makes it a rare vantage point to see alpine ice masses in their natural form.
