Rifugio Pier Fortunato Calvi, Mountain hut at 2167 meters in Sappada, Italy
Rifugio Pier Fortunato Calvi is a mountain shelter located at 2,167 meters (7,110 feet) in the Carnic Alps above the Sappada valley. The building sits between Monte Peralba and Monte Chiadenis and provides overnight accommodation for around 50 people from June through September.
The shelter was built in 1926 by Club Alpino Italiano. It was named after Pier Fortunato Calvi, a Venetian defender from 1848.
The refuge serves as a gathering place for mountaineers and is managed by the Sappada section of Club Alpino Italiano. This role reflects how important such shelters remain for people who spend time in the mountains.
The shelter can be reached by following trail number 132 from the parking area at Val Sesis road, which takes about one hour of hiking. The best time to visit is summer, as the refuge operates from June through September.
The shelter has a winter room that stays accessible year-round. This space allows the refuge to serve visitors even during the colder months when the main building is normally closed.
