Teatro di Verdura

Teatro di Verdura is an open-air theatre set within the gardens of Villa Castelnuovo, featuring a horseshoe-shaped stage arrangement surrounded by natural vegetation. The venue can accommodate up to 3,500 spectators within this green setting near Favorita Park.

The theatre space originated from an 18th-century estate owned by the Prince of Castelnuovo that spread across extensive gardens. Over time, this princely property was transformed into a public venue for artistic performances.

The venue hosts summer performances that bring theatre and music productions to an outdoor setting where audiences gather in the gardens. This tradition of performing art within greenery has become part of how locals and visitors experience entertainment in Palermo.

The entrance is located on Viale del Fante, marked by an ancient gate flanked by stone sphinxes that serve as clear orientation points. Wear comfortable shoes since the terrain is hilly and grassy throughout the garden grounds.

The gardens contain an octagonal fountain featuring the Armonia statue by sculptor Ignazio Marabitti, surrounded by smaller basins with papyrus and water lilies. This sculptural detail is easily overlooked by visitors but offers a quiet moment of discovery.
