Porciano Castle, Medieval castle in Pratovecchio Stia, Italy
Porciano Castle is a stone fortress in Pratovecchio Stia built across six levels with reinforced walls and two towers. The structure features two entrance gates and now houses exhibitions displaying artifacts from different periods.
The building was first documented in 1017 as a residence for Count Guido di Teudegrimo, who founded the Porciano branch of the Guidi family. It remained the seat of this noble family through the centuries.
The reception hall called Salone di Dante displays household objects, farming tools, and items from different periods. Visitors can see how people lived and worked in earlier times through these collections.
The castle is located in Stia and can be reached via the SS.70 road, positioned near the Arno river. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the building has multiple staircases and levels to explore.
Local legend tells of a hidden golden bell somewhere within the castle walls. According to the tale, its worth would equal that of the entire Casentino region.
