Orto Botanico dell'Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia
Orto Botanico dell'Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia, University botanical garden and natural history museum in Modena, Italy
The garden spans one hectare with several greenhouses running through its center, containing more than 1,400 plant species and an extensive herbarium collection.
Duke Francesco III d'Este founded this botanical garden in 1758 for medicinal plants, and it became an integral part of the university in 1772.
The Parterre-School section, dating from 1772, displays 700 European plant species arranged in radial flowerbeds around a central water feature.
The garden opens on weekdays during warm months except August, with free admission and prior arrangements required for greenhouse access.
The Succulent Plant Greenhouse, established in the 1980s, maintains specialized collections alongside a separate facility for carnivorous plants and orchids.
