Chiesa del Voto

This baroque church in central Modena features a prominent central dome and an interior arranged around classical proportions. Its architectural design draws inspiration from San Salvatore in Bologna, visible in the way the space flows and the decorative elements frame the altar.

Construction began in 1634 under architect Cristoforo Malagola as a direct response to the plague of 1630 that devastated the city. The building project arose from the community's conviction that a new sacred space could offer protection and healing.

The name reflects a vow made during the plague outbreak that shaped the community's faith. This devotional purpose remains visible in the religious artworks and altar arrangements throughout the interior.
