Palazzo della Corgna, Castiglione del Lago

Palazzo della Corgna is a Renaissance palace in Castiglione del Lago featuring Mannerist architectural design from the 16th century. The building spreads across multiple levels with living quarters, kitchens, and stables connected by grand staircases.

Construction started in 1563 under architect Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola for the Della Corgna family, who ruled the region at that time. The palace served as the residence of these rulers and became a symbol of their political power in central Italy.

The main hall features frescoes depicting Roman myths and the region's ruling family symbols painted on its walls. The decoration shows how the lords who lived here appreciated classical art and wanted to display their power through these images.

A hidden passageway links the palace to the nearby castle, allowing residents to move quickly between the two buildings. Three concealed rooms inside served as spaces for private meetings with regional visitors and guests.
