Villa Aprile, 18th-century noble residence in Ercolano, Italy
Villa Aprile is an 18th-century noble residence in Ercolano featuring an entrance framed by a fish pond and a central marble statue of Prometheus. The property is surrounded by restored gardens that complement the main structure.
Duke Girolamo Riario Sforza commissioned the villa in the late 18th century along the Miglio d'Oro stretch near Ercolano. About one generation later, neoclassical elements such as temples, artificial ruins, and Corinthian columns were introduced to the property.
The villa served as a gathering place for high society during the 19th and 20th centuries, welcoming notable figures such as Prime Minister Antonio Salandra. This role reflected the status of its residents and made it an important hub in the region's social life.
The property now operates as a four-star hotel with accommodations set within a historical building. Guests can explore the restored gardens and neoclassical features throughout the estate.
Among the garden features is an alpine chalet built during the neoclassical period, complete with water features. This unusual addition brings a touch of mountain landscape to the grounds near Naples.
