Church of San Mattia, Bologna

San Mattia church features Renaissance architecture with a main hall decorated with paintings and sculptures from the 16th century period.

The original monastery outside Porta Saragozza was destroyed in 1537 during conflicts with Visconti, leading to construction at the current location.

The church held the Virgin of San Luca image for two days during annual processions, marking an essential part of local religious traditions.

The structure spans multiple floors and contains exhibition spaces, meeting rooms, and facilities for hosting cultural events throughout the year.

Following French occupation in 1799, the building transformed from a religious site to a school, warehouse, and finally an arts center.
