Sala Boschereccia

The Sala Boschereccia features tempera frescoes painted by Vincenzo Martinelli and Giuseppe Valiani in 1797, depicting trees on walls and plants on the vault to create the illusion of a winter garden.

Created in 1797 during the late 18th century tradition of 'stanze paese' rooms in Bologna, this hall exemplifies the illusionistic decorative style promoted by the Accademia Clementina.

The hall represents the Bolognese artistic tradition of bringing nature indoors through decorative painting, reflecting the 18th-century desire to create continuous contact with natural environments within noble residences.

Located on the second floor of Bologna's City Hall within the City Art Collections, the 66-square-meter hall can be visited as part of the municipal museum collections.

The room houses Canova's famous marble Apollino statue from 1797 and features decorative elements including painted fountains, winged putti, flowers, and birds among the botanical motifs.
