Santuario di Maria Santissima del Lattani

The sanctuary is a minor basilica with a single nave and tall windows that flood the interior with light, creating a bright worship space. The Madonna dei Lattani chapel features a polychrome marble altar that serves as the focal point of the building.

Two Franciscan friars, Bernardino and James, established the sanctuary in 1430 after finding a statue of the Virgin Mary in a nearby cave. This discovery led to the development of the site as a center for religious devotion.

The cloister displays frescoes from the 17th century showing scenes of Saint Francis, reflecting the religious devotion that shaped this place over centuries.

The complex includes a courtyard and Franciscan monastery with visitor amenities for those coming to worship or explore the grounds. Regular services are held throughout the week, so plan your visit accordingly if you wish to attend.

A hexagonal fountain on the grounds holds water that visitors believe has special properties, particularly for couples hoping to have children. Many pilgrims come here to take water home or to perform small rituals with it.
