Laguna di Mistras

The Mistras lagoon is a body of water along the eastern coast of the Sinis peninsula, positioned between coastal plains and the Gulf of Oristano. It covers a wide area enclosed by woodland and farmland, with shallow waters that support diverse life.

This lagoon gained international recognition for being crucial to wetland conservation and wildlife protection in the Mediterranean region. Such acknowledgement led to stronger protections and designation as a protected zone managed specifically for ecological balance.

A sandbar divides the lagoon into two sections with distinctly different shorelines. The western side has smooth, straight edges while the eastern side shows a jagged, irregular coastline that creates smaller coves and inlets.
