Sanatorio regina Elena, Art Nouveau sanatorium in Legnano, Italy

The central building of Regina Elena Sanatorium consists of a two-story structure with a basement, flanked by single-story lateral wings with large windows and terraces.

The sanatorium opened on June 19, 1924, by Queen Mother Margherita of Savoy and was named after Elena of Montenegro, wife of King Victor Emmanuel III.

The building design incorporated advanced European medical therapies while maintaining an architectural style that minimized the institutional appearance for patients.

The facility transformed into a center for disabled individuals in 1970, now housing social services, volunteer associations, and local health department offices.

The sanatorium features special pavilions with curved facades oriented southwest, designed to maximize exposure to natural elements for therapeutic purposes.
