Church of St. Therese of Bom Jesus, Neoclassical church in Legnano, Italy
The Church of St. Therese of Bom Jesus in Legnano is a neoclassical structure built in Greek cross form with a large central dome positioned above the crossing. A brick facade with three doorways and an ornamental window faces the street, while a square bell tower stands adjacent to the main building.
The foundation stone was laid in October 1931, and just two years later Cardinal Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster consecrated the completed building. This rapid construction reflects the active building period that Legnano experienced during the early 1930s.
The church is dedicated to Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, a French Carmelite nun whose spirituality shaped the identity of this place. The Discalced Carmelites who care for it today continue to bring this religious tradition into the daily life of the community.
Entry is through one of the three doorways on the brick facade, all of which are clearly visible from the street. Remember that this is an active place of worship and not a museum, so visitors should dress respectfully and move quietly.
The interior features four smaller chapels positioned at each corner of the Greek cross, each capped with its own dome beneath the main vault. This corner chapel arrangement gives the space an unusual sense of symmetry rarely found in other regional neoclassical churches.
