Abbey of San Martino delle Scale, Benedictine abbey in San Martino delle Scale, Italy

The abbey complex features a single-nave church with five chapels on each side, positioned between Monte Cuccio and Monte Caputo mountains.

Originally established in 590 by Pope Gregory I, the monastery was destroyed by Saracens in the 9th century and rebuilt in 1347 under Archbishop Emanuele Spinola.

The abbey maintains a collection of artistic works, including the wooden choir created by Neapolitan craftsmen Ferraro and Vigliante during the late 17th century.

Located 15 kilometers from Palermo, the abbey provides accommodation facilities for individuals and groups, with access to prayer sessions and communal activities.

The monastery houses restoration workshops and maintains a historical library that remains accessible to researchers and the public.
