Spiaggia Di Barbarossa, Beach in Porto Azzurro, Italy
Spiaggia di Barbarossa is a roughly 160-meter stretch of coastline in Porto Azzurro with fine dark shingle mixed with sand. It faces south toward the Calamita peninsula and the Monte Capanne mountains.
The beach takes its name from Turkish admiral Khayr-al-Din Barbarossa, who launched raids on Elba Island in the 16th century. These attacks were part of the broader conflicts between European powers and the Ottoman Empire over Mediterranean control.
The beach connects to Porto Azzurro through the Carmignani path, which runs along the perimeter wall of Forte San Giacomo, now functioning as a prison.
The beach has facilities including a bar, restaurant, and water sports equipment rentals available on-site. A parking area near the shore provides convenient access for visitors.
Rocky underwater formations at both ends of the beach create ideal conditions for snorkeling and observing marine life. These submerged features draw visitors who want to explore the waters along this stretch of coast.
