Villa of the Volusii Saturnini

Villa of the Volusii Saturnini, Archaeological site near Fiano Romano, Italy.

This Roman country estate near Fiano Romano dates to the early Imperial period and features multiple rooms spread across two levels connected by an underground passageway. The property includes residential quarters, farm buildings, and storage areas that reveal how large rural estates were organized and operated.

The estate was built in the middle of the 1st century and belonged to a wealthy family with considerable influence during the early imperial period. It was eventually abandoned and buried under layers of earth until construction work uncovered it in the mid-20th century.

The mosaics and courtyard show how wealthy Roman families decorated their homes and the craftsmanship of builders from that era. The columns and ornaments reveal the taste and style that shaped daily life for the privileged classes.

Access is via a designated area along the A1 motorway between Rome and Florence on specific days of the week. It is best to check current visiting conditions beforehand to plan your visit and understand what to expect on arrival.

The site was discovered by chance during construction of one of Italy's major highways passing nearby. Systematic excavations that followed unearthed numerous artifacts that deepened understanding of daily life in this historical period.
