Church of Santo Spirito

The Church of Santo Spirito is a church in Agrigento with a sandstone facade featuring a Gothic portal with pointed arches and a rose window. Three bell towers frame the structure and give it a distinctive silhouette.

The church was founded in 1299 by Marchisia Prefoglio as a medieval structure. In the 18th century it underwent major renovations that added baroque elements to its original design.

The interior walls display elaborate stucco decorations by sculptor Serpotta showing scenes from Jesus's childhood and religious figures. These ornate details shape how the space looks and feels when you walk inside.

The building is centrally located in Agrigento and easy to reach on foot as part of a visit to the city. You can view the exterior anytime, though specific hours apply if you want to enter the interior.

Inside the church stands a marble statue of the Madonna of the Spring with Child by Gagini. This sculpture sits in a niche near the entrance and is a notable example of Renaissance carving.
