Grattacieli di Piazza Piemonte, Twin residential towers in Piazza Piemonte, Milan, Italy

The Grattacieli di Piazza Piemonte are two twin buildings in eclectic style on Piazza Piemonte, flanking Via Giorgio Washington. They reach a height of 38 metres. Although similar, they differ in details such as the shape of their two rooftop domes. The tower at number 2 was designed by Mario Borgato, while the one at number 1 is by E.G. Macchi and Giuseppe Rusconi Clerici.

These towers were built in 1923 and represent the start of vertical development in Milan's urban landscape. They marked a turning point toward modern multi-story residential construction and new building techniques.

The name "grattacieli" stuck because the 1923 towers rose 38 metres, above the 28-metre limit of the city plan then in force; a special exemption was granted to build them. The two are commonly called Milan's first skyscrapers, and the nickname has stayed in use.

The towers are located near Wagner metro station on Line 1, providing easy access to the city center. The surrounding area offers shops and local services within walking distance.

The two towers differ in the shape of their rooftop domes, a detail visible when comparing them across via Giorgio Washington. Their height of 38 metres exceeded the 28-metre limit of the 1923 urban plan, which is why they were called skyscrapers.
