Aqaba Church

The rectangular church measures 26 by 16 meters with a central nave, two side aisles, and stone foundations supporting mud-brick walls.

Archaeological excavations in 1998 uncovered this third-century church, which predates both the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Church of the Nativity.

The church layout reflects early Christian architectural principles with an eastward orientation, central nave, and side aisles for congregational gatherings.

The archaeological site contains preserved wall sections reaching 4.5 meters in height and maintains original structural elements from the Roman period.

Twenty-four human remains in mud-brick tombs surround the church, with one burial containing fragments of a bronze cross from the fourth century.
