Numeira, Archaeological site near Dead Sea, Jordan.

Numeira extends across 0.5 hectares of land near the Dead Sea, featuring fortification walls, residential buildings, and storage areas from Early Bronze Age settlements.

The settlement thrived between 2850 BC and 2550 BC, spanning approximately 15 generations before its inhabitants abandoned the location due to environmental changes.

Inhabitants constructed numerous storage facilities within their homes, including clay silos and mudbrick bins, reflecting advanced food preservation methods of Bronze Age communities.

Research teams have excavated only 30 percent of the site between 1979 and 1983, revealing multiple occupation phases and architectural developments.

Located 280 meters below sea level along the Dead Sea shoreline, Numeira represents one of the lowest elevation archaeological sites on Earth.
