Numeira

Numeira is an archaeological site near the Dead Sea featuring fortification walls, residential buildings, and storage areas from Bronze Age settlements. The ruins spread across a compact area and show multiple construction phases from this ancient period.

This settlement was inhabited starting around 2850 BC and was eventually abandoned about 300 years later due to environmental shifts. The timeline shows about 15 generations of continuous habitation in this location.

People who lived here built storage areas inside their homes using clay silos and mudbrick containers, showing how Bronze Age communities managed their food supplies.

The site is remote and requires careful navigation, so it helps to have a guide or prepare information beforehand. Access is possible, but facilities at the location are minimal.

The site sits about 280 meters below sea level, making it one of the lowest elevation archaeological locations on Earth. This extreme position reveals how ancient people adapted to living in harsh conditions.
