Malham cave, Salt cave in Mount Sodom, Israel

Within Mount Sodom near the Dead Sea, Malham Cave extends through a complex network of passages spanning more than 10 kilometers underground.

Researchers from the Cave Research Center first documented Malham Cave in the 1980s, leading to extensive surveys that revealed over 100 different salt caves.

The cave entrance stands near a notable salt formation known as Lot's Wife, connecting the location to biblical narratives of the region.

Visitors need specialized equipment and professional guidance to navigate the cave system, as the underground salt formations create challenging exploration conditions.

Scientific measurements in 2019 confirmed Malham Cave as the longest salt cave system worldwide, surpassing the previous record held by Iran's Cave of Three Nudes.
