Hioki

Hioki extends over 253 square kilometers in the central part of Kagoshima Prefecture, facing the East China Sea on the mid-west of Satsuma Peninsula.

The region transformed into its current form on May 1, 2005, when the towns of Fukiage, Higashiichiki, Hiyoshi, and Ijuin merged to establish the city of Hioki.

Each neighborhood in Hioki maintains Japanese traditions through local markets, seasonal festivals, and community gatherings that connect residents throughout the districts.

The city provides extensive public services with fifteen elementary schools, five junior high schools, and four high schools serving the educational needs of 46,348 residents.

Fukiagehama Beach within Hioki contains one of Japan's three largest sand dunes, while Kutajima Island sits 12 kilometers from the mainland shore.
