Akita, Administrative capital in northern Honshu, Japan

Located at the western edge of Akita Prefecture, the city extends across 906 square kilometers with a population of 300,502 residents in 136,628 households.

The Japanese imperial court constructed Akita Castle in 733 AD to establish control over the Emishi tribes inhabiting the Dewa Province region.

The Akita Kanto Festival fills the streets each August with performers balancing 12-meter bamboo poles holding paper lanterns in a night illumination display.

Akita Station connects to major cities through the Akita Shinkansen line, while Akita Airport offers regular flights to Tokyo, Osaka, and Sapporo.

The city maintains one of Japan's primary oil extraction fields, supporting industries in oil refining alongside traditional agriculture and forestry sectors.
