International Stadium Yokohama is a multi-purpose sports venue in Kozukue-chō, Yokohama, holding more than 72,000 seats and ranking among the largest facilities of its kind in Japan. The playing surface measures 107 meters in length and 72 meters in width, surrounded by stands on all sides.
Construction began in 1994 following designs by MHS Planners and Tohata Architects, with the opening taking place on March first, 1998. Four years later, the venue hosted the 2002 FIFA World Cup final between Brazil and Germany.
The ground serves as home for Yokohama F. Marinos and fills with crowds on match days who gather to support their team from the stands. National team fixtures also take place here, turning the area into a meeting point for football fans from across the country.
Access is through Shin-Yokohama station, from where the grounds can be reached on foot in around 15 minutes. On event days, expect larger crowds in the surrounding area, so arriving earlier is advisable.
After hosting the 2002 football World Cup final, the ground was used again in 2019 for a World Cup final match, this time in rugby. The playing surface can be prepared for different sports, allowing the switch between football and rugby.
