Numata is an administrative division in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. The area spreads across mountainous terrain in the northern part of the prefecture and sits about two hours from the capital.
The town developed during the Sengoku era around a fortress built on a hill above the river. It later became the center of an administrative territory under Tokugawa government.
