月夜野大橋, bridge in Minakami, Japan
Motozukiyo Large Bridge is a concrete bridge that spans the Tone River in Minakami, connecting two areas of the town. The structure supports both pedestrian and vehicle traffic with multiple support sections and a functional design.
Completed in 1982, this bridge employed the then-innovative P&Z construction method for the first time in Japan. The technique allowed bridge components to be assembled in place, improving construction efficiency and setting a precedent for future projects.
From the bridge, visitors can observe the river and explore the surrounding nature, especially during seasons when the landscape transforms. There is a small parking area nearby with a short walk to the bridge, offering a quiet place to pause and take in the views.
The bridge was among the first structures in Japan to employ the groundbreaking P&Z construction method, a technique that revolutionized bridge building. This approach allowed components to be moved and assembled in the air, reducing construction time and complexity.
