Meguro Station, Railway station in Kamiōsaki district, Japan
Meguro is a railway junction in the Kamiōsaki district of Tokyo, where several lines of the urban rail network converge. The platforms extend across two island structures with a total of four tracks that allow direct transfers between different operators.
The facility opened on March 16, 1885, making it one of the early railway connections of the Meiji era. Over the following decades, additional lines were added, giving the junction its present importance in the Tokyo transport network.
The name refers to the neighboring ward of Meguro, even though the tracks themselves lie within Shinagawa administrative territory. This geographic peculiarity shows in the daily flow of commuters who arrive from both districts.
Ticket counters and travel information desks are located in the section operated by JR East, which also offers luggage lockers and vending machines. Travelers planning transfers should watch for signage, as different operating companies occupy separate levels.
The Yamanote Line section received platform screen doors in 2010, a safety measure that has since become standard at many Tokyo junctions. Six years later, the facility was assigned the code JY22, helping travelers orient themselves in the sprawling network.
