Asaka, Suburban city in Saitama Prefecture, Japan

The city extends across 18.34 square kilometers of the Musashino Terrace, along the central reaches of the Arakawa River in southeastern Saitama Prefecture.

The settlement originated as four post stations on the Kawagoe Kaido highway during the Muromachi period and developed a reputation for copper crafts production.

Local festivals throughout the year maintain Japanese traditions while the districts of Kami-Uchimagi and Shimo-Uchimagi preserve historical architecture and customs.

The city connects to Tokyo through JR East Musashino Line at Kita-Asaka station and Tobu Tojo Line at Asaka and Asakadai stations.

In 1964, Asaka hosted the riding component of the modern pentathlon during the Tokyo Summer Olympics, marking its place in international sports history.
