Anan

Anan is a coastal city in Tokushima Prefecture positioned where the Naka River meets the Kii Channel and Pacific Ocean. The city sits in the southeastern part of the prefecture with waterfront neighborhoods, harbors, and fishing areas.

Modern Anan was created in 1958 when the castle town of Tomioka merged with the fishing village of Tachibana. The area has been settled since the Kofun period, as shown by archaeological remains found in the region.

The major employer here is Nichia Corporation, a LED manufacturer whose operations shape how locals experience daily work and community life. The company has become central to the city's modern character and provides economic stability for many families.

Cape Kamoda marks the easternmost tip of Shikoku island and sits within the city boundaries with distinctive natural displays. Seasonal sunrises create light formations that resemble traditional daruma dolls, offering visitors an unexpected visual moment.
