Miyoshi, Administrative center in central Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan
Miyoshi is an administrative center in central Hiroshima Prefecture that stretches across several valleys and forested hills. The town cores cluster along river courses and are linked by narrow roads that wind through the hilly terrain.
The current form emerged from the merger of several smaller communities in the mid-20th century. Further incorporations in the early 2000s shaped the present territory and expanded administrative functions.
The name refers to earlier geographic divisions and remains visible in daily life through street signs and public buildings. Many older houses along the roads still show classic wooden construction with dark beams and traditional roofs.
Rail connections run through the town and provide access to larger places in the surrounding area. Many roads follow narrow river valleys, so travel times can stretch depending on the terrain.
In some small eateries, soba is cut by hand and prepared according to local recipes passed down through generations. The noodles are often made with lightly roasted buckwheat from nearby fields.
