Château de Hiei Oyama, Feudal castle in Oyama, Japan

The castle occupies an elevated location near the Omoigawa River, with primary structures positioned to control passages through the Kanto region.

The castle was established in 1148 by Oyama Masamitsu, a descendant of Fujiwara Hidesato, who governed territories in Musashi Province.

The fortress served as a military center and communication point along the Oshu Kaido way, connecting the Kanto region to Tohoku.

The castle grounds, now transformed into Shiroyama Park, remain accessible through a ten-minute walk from Oyama Station on the JR East line.

The site hosted critical political conferences, including the Oyama meeting in 1600, which influenced power dynamics in feudal Japan.
