Muko, Residential city in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan.
The city spans 7.72 square kilometers at the southwestern edge of the Kyoto Basin, with the Nishiyama mountain range and Katsura River defining its borders.
In the late 8th century, Emperor Kanmu established Nagaoka-kyo capital within present-day Muko before relocating to Heian-kyo due to health concerns.
The Saigoku Kaido road, constructed in 1592, connects Toji temple in Kyoto to Nishinomiya Shrine in Settsu Province through the center of Muko.
Express trains from Hankyu Kawaramachi Station depart every ten minutes, requiring a transfer at Katsura for a total journey time of 13 minutes.
The February spicy foods festival at the Velodrome features competitions including a pepper race and local cook-off contest.
