Seki, Sword making center in Gifu Prefecture, Japan
The city extends across 472 square kilometers of central Gifu Prefecture, with Mount Takinami reaching an elevation of 1,412 meters.
Local swordsmiths Kaneshige and Kaneuji established the Mino sword-making tradition in the area during the 14th century, creating blades for samurai.
The Seki Swordsmith Museum presents traditional forging techniques, with smiths demonstrating the creation of Japanese blades throughout the year.
Visitors can reach Seki by taking the JR Takayama line from Gifu Station and transferring to Nagaragawa Railroad to Seki Station.
The January 2nd ritual at local forges marks the first blade-making ceremony of the year, following centuries-old metallurgic traditions.
