Nagoya Castle, Japanese castle ruins in Karatsu, Japan
The stone walls and foundations of Nagoya Castle extend across 170,000 square meters on the hills of Hatonosaki Peninsula in Saga Prefecture.
Toyotomi Hideyoshi constructed Nagoya Castle in 1591 as a military base for Korean peninsula campaigns, completing the five-story keep within months.
The castle grounds contained multiple layered towers, tea rooms, and a Noh stage, demonstrating the architectural elements of late 16th century Japan.
The Saga Prefectural Nagoya Castle Museum operates daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with free admission to the main exhibition area.
Following the Shimabara Rebellion in 1638, authorities deliberately dismantled the castle remains to prevent potential use by insurgent groups.
