Former Karatsu Bank Head Office

The Former Karatsu Bank Head Office building incorporates Western architectural elements with traditional Japanese design principles, featuring high ceilings and ornate stone details throughout its structure.

Built in 1912 during Japan's rapid modernization period, this bank served as a financial center for local businesses and merchants until its conversion into a museum in 1997.

The building stands as a Prefectural Cultural Property and Tangible Cultural Property of Japan, representing the evolution of Japanese banking institutions in the early 20th century.

Located at 1513-15 Honmachi in Karatsu City, the museum provides guided tours and exhibits that detail the economic development of the Saga Prefecture region.

The structure, designed by architect Tatsuno Kingo, maintains its original banking hall configuration, complete with period furniture and financial operation equipment from the early 1900s.
