鷹島肥前大橋, Cable-stayed bridge between Matsuura and Karatsu, Japan
The Taka-shima Hizen Bridge is a cable-stayed structure crossing the Hibi Channel to connect the island with the mainland. It features two traffic lanes and a pedestrian walkway that allows visitors to see the water and surrounding landscape while moving across.
The bridge opened in 2009 and connected Taka-shima island to mainland Kyushu for the first time ever. This project changed how people could reach the island and made travel between the communities much easier than before.
The bridge connects Taka-shima island to the mainland, making it easier for people to experience the region and its communities. Visitors can stop at the stations and parks at both ends to explore local life and the surrounding area.
The bridge is free to cross and provides a direct route between Matsuura and Karatsu, though traffic may be restricted during strong winds or icy weather. Pedestrians have their own walkway to use while enjoying views of the water and surrounding area during the crossing.
The two main towers of the bridge reach about 100 meters high and rise prominently above the water. They make the structure recognizable from far away and create a distinctive feature in the coastal landscape.
