鷹島肥前大橋, Cable-stayed bridge between Matsuura and Karatsu, Japan
The Takashima Hizen Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge in Matsuura, Nagasaki Prefecture, that spans the Hibi Channel to link Takashima island with the Kyushu mainland. It carries two lanes of road traffic alongside a dedicated pedestrian walkway running the length of the crossing.
The bridge opened in 2009 and was the first fixed link ever built between Takashima island and the Kyushu mainland. Before that, the only way to reach the island was by ferry.
The bridge connects Taka-shima island to the mainland, making it easier for people to experience the region and its communities. Visitors can stop at the stations and parks at both ends to explore local life and the surrounding area.
The bridge is free to cross by car or on foot, though it may close during strong winds or icy conditions. Pedestrians should use the dedicated walkway and keep away from the traffic lanes.
The two towers of the bridge rise about 100 meters above the water and are visible from far along the coast. The waters below are also known for finds from the Mongol invasion fleet that sank here in the 13th century.
