Mount Kagami

Mount Kagami rises 284 meters above Karatsu and offers views of the bay, the Niji no Matsubara pine grove, and Iki Island across the water. From the top, visitors can see across the landscape to the surrounding coastal features that make this location notable for its viewpoint.

The mountain appears in the Manyoshu, a collection of poems from the 8th century, showing its importance to the region at that time. This early mention demonstrates that the location has held cultural significance for over a thousand years.

A shrine at the summit features red torii gates and statues dedicated to Inari, showing how traditional Japanese religious practices are still observed today. Visitors can see how locals and pilgrims use the space as a place of worship and connection to the spiritual landscape.

A winding road of about 4 kilometers leads to the summit, with free parking available at the top. Regular bus service connects the mountain to the city, making it accessible without a car.

The slopes serve as a launch point for hang-gliding and paragliding, attracting people seeking aerial views of the region. In spring, cherry blossom trees form natural tunnels along the walking paths, creating a fleeting seasonal display.
